Peru has currently 77,000 restaurants that generate approximately US $1.5 billion in sales per year, said the Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage and Cultural Industries, Bernardo Roca Rey.
He also said that the new Ministry of Culture will focus on promoting Peruvian cuisine as a universal heritage, remarking that it is possible to increase Peru brand’s value by five times in the next five years.
"One of our first tasks in the Ministry of Culture is to make Peruvians celebrate our national cuisine," he said.
Roca Rey highlighted the success of Mistura food fair, which this year hit another record posting more than 200,000 visitors.
“Mistura has become the largest food fair on the continent thanks to our efforts," he added.
The fair reunited during six days the most representative foods from the Peruvian gastronomy, the regional biodiversity and related expressions of art and culture.
