Smartphones sales in Peru are likely to post an increase of 30% this year, boosted by the growing demand from the massive segments rather than from the corporative ones, says a high executive from America Movil-Claro.
Oscar Ferradas, Manager of Strategic Products of Claro, said that young consumers are the ones demanding more smartphones.
“There is currently a migration process from prepaid conventional services, with monthly charges of 20 to 30 soles, to post-paid plans that allow them to access voice and data with not so expensive fares,” he explains.
“The average Peruvian consumer has evolved and now appreciates the possibility of not only talking, but also interacting with data,” says the executive.
He added that Lima still concentrates 50% of the demand of smartphones due to the significantly higher population with higher purchase power.
