Peruvian president Alan Garcia and his Chilean counterpart Sebastian Piñera agreed to enforce an electricity integration in the near future.

They ordered officials of related sectors in Chile and Peru to summon a high level meeting to discuss the terms of this agreement.
The two leaders urged Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Ecuador to join the "Deep Integration Area" for regional electricity interconnection.

A while ago the Peruvian Energy Ministry talked about the possibility of developing a "South Energy Node," with an investment of 1 billion U.S. dollars that will be used to construct four thermoelectric centers.

Besides boosting the regional electricity integration, both countries showed their interests in moving ahead bilateral agreements for more energy exchanges.
