Actor Jim Carrey, star of blockbuster films the Mask, the Grinch and Mr. Popper’s Penguins, arrived Wednesday in Lima and immediately traveled to Cusco to visit the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, one of the seven new wonders of the world.
The winner of two Golden Globes for Best Actor in Man on the Moon and the Truman Show would not give statements to the press and, as a broadcaster reported, he is staying at the exclusive Hotel Monasterio, located two blocks from the Plaza in Cusco.
The Hollywood star tweeted some details of his visit accompanied by two photographs taken from the plane.
"Here I will look for ancient civilizations and decipher the origins of the Incas, who built Machu Picchu," he said. "What is Machu Picchu? I have the intention to climb to the top," he wrote on his Twitter account.
The actor of 49 years arrived in Cusco a week before the centennial celebration of the discovery Machu Picchu, an event attributed to the American explorer Hiram Bingham supported by National Geographic.
