Free Trade Agreement with US in danger


Businessmen from different sectors are worried about the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Peru and the United States, in order to keep the steady economical growth of the last five years and to avoid unemployment it is important to sign the FTA, they said. The National Society of Industries (SNI in Spanish) expressed that they will meet with the candidates of the Elections 2006, when the second candidate is finally elected.
The Chamber of Commerce of Lima (CCL) represented by Graciela Fernández Baca declared “If the candidate Ollanta Humala is elected, the FTA will de in danger because he will not support the FTA”, therefore the CCL will contact the congressmen to suggest them to debate as soon as possible about the FTA with the US, as it was recommended by the National Jury of Elections (JNE in Spanish).
The president of ADEX (Peruvian Association of Exporters) Luis Vega agreed with the decision of president Alejandro Toledo to sign the FTA on April 12.
