Presidential Debate Looking Doubtful

Representatives of APRA and UPP, the two political parties that represent presidential candidates Alan García and Ollanta Humala, have been unable to reach an agreement concerning the format and style of a presidential debate.

In addressing this lack of progress the director of the National Democratic Institute (IND), Luis Nunes Bertoldo, stated that would “be very bad for the Peruvian people to have a debate put together at the last minute, because a debate should be between 90 and 120 minutes and be very well organized. Nunes Bertoldo also added that a debate is not for the candidates but a right for the voters.

Nunes further emphasized the proposal put forth in February by the IND to facilitate and organize the debate.
