Garcia promises to restore labor rights


Alan Garcia met with several Union leaders yesterday. He
reaffirmed the strong commitment of his social-democratic APRA party to
protect, secure and extend the rights of Peru’s labor force. He
specifically mentioned the protection of 8-hour workdays, the
enforcement of payments for working extra hours, and the eradication of
exploitative recruitment agencies and services. Moreover he promised
the by workers long-awaited restitution of the labor rights which were
suspended during the tenure of Alberto Fujimori.

Garcia emphasized his iron defense of the working class by saying
that “we are the unique front of manual and intellectual workers. And
Apra is the party of the labor rights of the masses of workers! ”
