UPP and APRA closing campaigns in different locations

According to the guidelines of electoral authorities, there will be not much room for provocation on the last day of the campaign.
Ollanta Humala will not be able to gather his supporters for his closing rally at Lima’s Plaza Dos de Mayo at the same time and in close proximity to his rival’s final get-together with his followers.

The UPP candidate will send his last
message to the voters in the capital tomorrow at 8.30 p.m., in the heart of East Lima: in San Juan de Lurigancho.
On the following day, Thursday, June 1st, he is scheduled to gather with the masses at the Plaza de Armas in Cusco at 8.00 p.m.
At the same time, Alan Garcia’s final celebration will be held hundreds of kilometers away, in downtown Lima at the Paseo de la Republica.

According to the Prefecture, the change of plans was purely based on safety issues to avoid more confrontations between the supporters of both candidates.
“We have
been forced to change the day and place of our meeting. But we
agreed to sign a commitment and collaborated with this public
order”, Jose Vega, Secretary General of UPP, said yesterday. In a
less amiable tone the wife of Ollanta Humala, Nadine Heredia, complained that the “prefecture has
facilitated everything in favor of the Apristas”, and said that “for reasons of equality the
Humalistas had hoped to choose a heavier populated district”.

Close to 53,000 troups of the armed forces and police will supervise the electoral process on Sunday.
