Etnocacerista leader Antauro Humala, brother of ex-presidential candidate Ollanta Humala, and 160 followers remain in protective custody for the forceful occupation of a police station in Andahuaylas in early January 2005 that left four police officers an two gunmen dead.
The judge of the 38th Penal Court of Lima, Patricia Overluijs, ruled to extend the case and its investigation by a maximum oft 18 months due to its complexity. Charges against Humala include homicide, rebellion, illicit association to break the law, kidnapping and carrying firearms.
Humala’s lawyers have already announced to appeal the decision at Lima’s Superior Court.
