Lula denies calling Peru’s president ‘outlandish’

(LIP-jl) — The spokesman for the office of the Presidency of Brazil, Andre Singer, denied that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva made strong remarks against his counterpart, Peruvian President Alan Garcia.

According to the Brazilian Embassy in Lima, Singer sent a formal letter to the Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo denying the allegations.

“It is simply not true that President Lula referred to President Garcia in those terms,” wrote Singer.

He also indicated President Lula should have been reached to confirm the authenticity of the allegations made.

According to the Folha de Sao Paolo, the Brazilian leader made these remarks towards Garcia during a meeting with social movement leaders in Brasilia.
