38,000 Peruvian buses inspected during first month of ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy

Zero Tolerance policy for Peruvian buses(LIP-wb) — Peru’s Ministry of Transportation and Communication (MTC) informed that during the first month of application, its “Tolerance Zero” policy led to a random inspection of 37,906 interregional buses nationwide.

Minister Maria Zavala emphasized in a press conference that the interventions managed to prevent accidents and protected the life of approximately 102,350 people who were facing the potential risk of boarding unsafe vehicles.

A total of 2,277 buses were declared “unsuitable” for public transport and returned to their point of departure because they didn’t guarantee proper passenger safety due to legal irregularities committed by the bus company or driver, as well as technical inadequacies of the vehicle.
