(LivinginPeru News) — The director of the New Seven Wonders foundation, Jean-Paul de la Fuente, confirmed on Wednesday that the Incan citadel of Machu Picchu, located near Cuzco, Peru, is among the top vote getters in the New Seven Wonders online/telephone voting contest.
De la Fuente informed that Latin American candidates are receiving the largest amounts of support to be among the New Seven Wonders, with Machhu Piccho leading the way.
"At the moment, the Incan city of Machu Picchi is situated in the most successful group, while the Mayan temple of Chichen Itza (Mexico), Easter Island (Chile), and the statue of Christ Redeemer (Brazil) are located in the middle of the pack," declared de la Fuente to the Spanish news agency EFE.
According to the directors of the contest, the campaign, has registered over 28 million votes from around the world thus far.
The 7 winners will be crowned on July 7, 2007 (7/7/07) as the New Seven Wonders in a ceremony held in Lisbon, Portugal.
