A document from the accounting department in the police force show that the police are short of 40 million soles for the rest of the year. The money is needed to buy enough gasoline for the 5,000 cars and 2,500 motorcycles that the police has. Nowadays the police can’t move to much around in their cars as they only have four to six gallons of gasoline to use per day.
The police are not in need for money to buy gasoline but also to increase the policemen’s salaries, as many policeman has to work as guardians in private institutions in there spare time to have enough money to live. To have an idea of their income, a police captain’s salary is of approximately 1,300 soles or $ 400 a month.
Fernando Rospigliosi, former minister of the Department of Internal Affaires, said that an increase of police salaries is not the solution to have a better police force. For him the solution is to select better and more honest personal to avoid corruption and to work more efficient.
