Pope Benedict XVI sends blessings to Peru

(LIP-jl) (El Comercio) — Pope Benedict XVI sent his blessings to the Peruvian people while meeting and reviewing the credentials of the new Peruvian Ambassador to the Vatican, Alfonso Rivero Monsalve on Friday.

During the meeting, the Pope reminisced about his previous trip to the Andean nation in 1986 while he was the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith.

"I have very fond memories of the days I spent in Peru, meeting humble people in modest neighborhoods in Lima and Cuzco," recalled the pope.

The pope proclaimed his desire to continue mutual and collaborative efforts between the Peruvian government and the Catholic Church, and their benefit to the Peruvian people.

"Let the health care sector take care of citizens from every social and economical class, and let every Peruvian have access to quality education," stated Pope Benedict XVI.
