Lima, Peru: Women arrested for drugging and robbing police officer

"Peperas" are arrested by Peruvian police officers.

(LIP-jl) — An officer from the Peruvian National Police almost died of a drug overdose yesterday when two unscrupulous women slipped powerful sedatives into his drink in the Limean district of San Juan de Lurigancho.

According to police reports, Manuel Abanto was seduced by Roxana Bailon Guadalupe (25) and Nancy Jenny Vergara Yalico (34). They went to the officer’s home, located in San Juan de Lurigancho, and the women slipped powerful drugs into his drink. Moments later, Abanto was out cold.

The women then proceeded to steal money, jewelry, appliances, and even Abanto’s police uniform and weapon. Fortunately, Amandina Acuña, Abanto’s sister-in-law, observed the robbery and promptly called authorities.

The ‘Peperas’ (as these criminals are referred to in Peru) were arrested as they left the 43 year-old police officer’s home. According to police, this is not the first time they have used this method of operation to rob unsuspecting victims.

Abanto was taken to an area hospital and his condition is considered delicate due to the amount of sedatives the women placed into his drink.
