Lima, Peru: Authorities unite against child sexual exploitation and abuse

(LIP-jl) — Eleven district mayors from Peru’s capital city of Lima have joined forces to fight child sexual exploitation and abuse by implementing the Mayoral Commission Against Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.

The commission will concentrate the districts’ preventative efforts as well as intervention actions against those who commit these heinous crimes against society.

Municipal representatives from Independencia, Jesus Maria, Lince, Magdalena, San Luis, San Miguel, Santa Rosa, San Martin de Porres, Surquillo, Villa El Salvador and Villa Maria del Triunfo will form the coalition with the non-governmental organization Acción por los Niños.

Although representatives from Acción por los Niños were happy to get the commission off the ground, they still expressed some disappointment as only 11 out of 43 Limean district leaders committed to their offer designed to help protect Lima’s children.

The commission’s inauguration ceremony will be held tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. at Acción por los Niños main office, located on Avenida La Molina 274, in the district of La Molina.
