Ecological accident in Apurimac


More than 15 tons of anfo, an explosive material, polluted the River Cceñahuarán in Apurimac when a trailer that lost control in the highway and accidentally drove into the river. The authorities informed that the spill caused the death of 70 thousand trout’s and other species in the river. The situation in very serious as the contaminated water is used for the animals and agricultural work among 2 thousand families from the communities in Occollo y Cceñoarán. The authorities declared in red alert the districts of Turpo and Huancaray, due to high levels of ammonium nitrate in the river.
