(LIP-jl) — Peruvian entertainers and friends Juan Diego Florez, considered one of the best tenors in the world, and Spanish-language pop singer Gian Marco promised their fans many surprises during this Saturday’s concert, which will include a rare chance for Florez fans to witness his attempt at singing pop tunes.

The concert, which will be held this Saturday, June 02 at the Jockey Club in Surco, will benefit Peruvian charity Sembrando -headed by Peruvian First Lady Pilar Nores- and UNICEF.

The Peruvian performers revealed that the idea for the concert was born two years ago over a friendly dinner, when both singers agreed to perform together to benefit charitable organizations.

"That is how the concert became a reality, and now we are helping two wonderful charities such as Sembrando, which helps thousands of people in Peru, and UNICEF (organization for which Gian Marco is a spokesman), which works directly with children -the future of our country," Florez expressed.

Both men recalled their days spent together in school when both studied at Colegio Santa Margarita in Lima.

"What Juan Diego has accomplished is amazing. I am very proud of how far he has come," said Gian Marco.

Meanwhile, Florez talked about his humble beginnings as a ‘substitute’ performer at a piano bar where his mom worked.

"I used to perform at a bar where my mother worked. I remember that I would get on stage only when the hired act would cancel or fail to show," said the renowned tenor.
