Peru: Miraflores to appeal court order that reopens night clubs

(LIP-jl) — After a court order mandated the reopening of three night clubs that were closed a couple of months ago, the municipality of Miraflores has announced that it will appeal the decision to keep the the night clubs closed.

This past April, the municipality of Miraflores, headed by Mayor Manuel Masias, closed Down Town, Vaca Loca, and Phuket amid resident complaints that the night clubs caused excessive noise and attracted ‘immoral’ conduct in their immediate surroundings.

The mayor indicated that he is planning on denouncing the judges who issued the court orders due to, what he called, ‘apparent irregularities.’

Among the closed establishments is Down Town, known as one of Lima’s most famous homosexual night clubs. The closure of the night club has brought about strong protests from Lima’s homosexual community who allege the night club was closed based on discriminatory reasons.

The mayor added that the Exes night club, located in Larco Mar, will soon be closed as well because the establishment is only authorized to operate as a restaurant and bar.
