During the last few days, authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affaires and the
President of the cabinet Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (PPK) are very concerned about a possible strike in the police forces.
During his first week in charge of the police institution, General Luis Montoya Villanueva, had been forced to deal with the possibility of a general strike due to the internal conflicts of the PNP (National Police of Peru). After listening to the rumours of a possible strike, General Montoya tried to minimize the uneasiness among police members due to the low salaries.
After the celebration of the Citizen’s Security Day in the district of San Borja, the General confirmed that he has no information concerning the policemen movement “Justice and Dignity”, who during a secret meeting announced to some media, that they will take extreme measures for a general strike of the police forces.
Last Friday, the PNP director began negotiations concerning the situation of police officers with the Ministry of Internal Affaires.
Luis Gonzalez Posada, president of the Citizen Security Congress Commission will have a meeting with the head of the cabinet PPK in order to set a time table to increase the salary of the police sector.
