Alturas Minerals Appoints Chairman


Alturas Minerals Corp. (the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:ALT) announced today the appointment of Mr. Augusto Baertl as Chairman of the Board of the Company effective immediately. Dr. Laurence Curtis, who has acted as Chairman since inception, has decided to relinquish the position due to increasingly heavy time commitments required by his involvement with other companies. Mr. Augusto Baertl has been a Director of Alturas Minerals since inception of the Company in 2004.

Mr. Baertl is a mining engineer who graduated from the Universidad de Ingenieria, Peru, and who has participated in various programs at Harvard and Northwestern Universities in the United States. Mr. Baertl has had a distinguished career serving as an executive and board member of major Peruvian and International resource companies, which have included his position as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Peruvian mining company Milpo, and later as President of Compania Minera Antamina. In the latter company, he successfully managed the exploration, development, construction and startup of the world class Antamina zinc-copper project. During most of his career, Mr. Baertl has actively participated as an investor and supporter of investments in mining, agricultural and services ventures, and was one of the founding shareholders of Alturas Minerals.
