In the next few hours, 286 alpacas will travel to Australia, after being
adjudicated for export in a public auction sale, informed the National
Council of South American Camelids (Conacs).
The winning company had to pay US$1,504 as a minimum price for each alpaca to each raiser. With this money the benefited cattle-dealer will be able to invest in their cattle and improve their living conditions.
This is the second shipment this year. In April another 232 alpacas were
sent to Switzerland, which gives a total sale $ 779.072 this year.
The commercialization of alpacas is authorized since 1996 with certain
restrictions. The Minister of Agriculture fixes an annual quote for export.
