Foreign Tourists to Take Part in Peru’s National Census

(LIP-ir) — According to Peru’s National Statistics Institute (INEI), all foreigners in Peru on October 21, National Census Day, will also take part in Peru’s National Census.

Director of Peru’s INEI, Renán Quispe stated that foreign tourists will be able to carry out their normal daily activities as long as they carried around their passport and a special document stating they had taken part in the census.

"Only then will they be allowed to move about freely and visit the country’s main tourist attractions," stated Quispe. He also added that Peru’s INEI has coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism to make it easier on foreign tourists.

It was reported that foreign tourists are to be polled at airports, hotels and wherever they are lodged on October 21. It was also reported that airlines would run as usual and that flight schedules would remain the same. Taxis will also be able to provide services due to the fact that they will have previously been polled.

Peru’s National Census is to take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, all public establishments will be closed during census hours. Markets, supermarkets, convenience stores, restaurants, gas stations and commercial establishments will all be closed on National Census Day in Peru.
