Peru Hotels Society stated that INEIs decision to include international visitors in the October 21 census would only drive away the tourists that planned on coming to Peru before Sunday, now that they are aware that they will not be allowed to move about freely.
SHP suggested that Peru’s government consider the tourists immigration card as well as his/her passport as evidence of having entered the country and abstain from interviewing the foreign visitor. SHP stated that the tourist will have already been registered by Peru’s Immigration Service.
On the other hand, INEI has proposed that tourists arriving to Peru be polled as soon as they arrive to Jorge Chavez National Airport. SHP has questioned whether INEI had the manpower to carry out such a task.
SHPs release asked, "How will the tower of babel be avoided, the long lines, the bad moods, the confusion, the sense of arriving to a country which is disorganized and even unsafe?"
Peru Hotels Society requested that Minister Mercedes Aráoz reconsider and improve the measures being taken during the 2007 Census.
