(LIP-ir) — Early this morning, Señor de los Milagros (Lord of Miracles) began its fourth procession through downtown Lima, Peru. Devoted worshipers have followed the venerated effigy through the streets of Lima, in the cold and drizzle for kilometers on end.
Faithful followers make solemn promises and reverently ask the Señor de los Milagros to have their miracles granted and their lives blessed. Men and women, young and old all look to the sacred image seeking peace and comfort.
During a pastoral blessing yesterday, Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne asked the Lord of Miracles to grant Peru peace and to free the country from violence and disorder.
"We should remember that abortion is not a human right but a deep social wound. Señor de los Milagros continue protecting our homeland so that they won’t dare attack the lives of those unborn little ones," prayed Cipriani.
In another part of his blessing, Cardinal Cipriani asked for peace in Peru, recommending that Peru’s people not let themselves be tricked by false Messiahs which attempt to disturb peoples peace by abusing of impoverished citizens.
In addition, during Cardinal Cipriani’s homily, just before the Señor de los Milagros was to begin its third procession, he made a special request for Peru’s families to be more united.
