The consumer prices for energy increased in 3% since yesterday. The Minister of Energy and Mines declared that there is no technical reason for prices to increase, but due to recent events abroad it is unavoidable. He also mentioned that this price raise is not due to the presence of Camisea gas in Lima.
Alberto Dammert Lira, president of Osinerg (Entity that regulates energy services) called the press media and tried to explain the price increase. He explained that the Law of Electrical Concessions says that the electric generation costs increases in relation to international prices. Dammert said also that the role of Osinerg in this matter is to supervise that the price increase is fair.
He also mentioned that due to the effects from the Katrina Hurricane, they suspected that a price increase could affect our country.
In order to prevent this situation from happening again Osinerg sent a proposal to the Ministry of Energy and Mines to modify the Law of Electrical Concessions so the international prices of fuels should not affect our price lists.
Until now Osinerg has not received an answer from the Minister of Energy and Mines in relation to this proposal.
