5.4 Magnitude Quake Shakes Peru, Epicenter Near Ica

(LIP-ir) — A 5.4-magnitude earthquake briefly shook several provinces in Peru Thursday night.

The quake was felt at approximately 8:41 p.m. and worried many of Pisco’s citizens causing them to exit their homes.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was off the coast of Peru and approximately 167 kilometers (104 miles) from Lima.

Just 55 kilometers (34 miles) from the epicenter of the earthquake, Chincha is where most of the movement was felt. Chincha, located in the region of Ica, was recently devastated by a magnitude-8 earthquake on August 15.
