The official announcement was made this afternoon by Peru’s president Alan Garcia Perez. He affirmed that for the first time in Peru’s history, two important world summits would take place in the country in the same year.
Next May, 60 European and Latin American heads of state and government will attend the 5th European Union – Latin-American and Caribbean (EU-LAC) Summit to discuss trade subjects between both blocs and to share experiences and projects regarding poverty reduction.
Afterwards, in November, leaders of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Member Economies will arrive in Lima to take part in the 16th APEC Summit.
APEC’s objectives are to promote sustainable economic growth and development, to strengthen the multilateral trade system and to increase the interdependence and prosperity of its member economies.
The regional president of Lambayeque, Yehude Simon, urged today to set differences aside and show a strong and united country to the world leaders who will attend the two summits next year.
"The upcoming visit of leaders and businessmen of the most developed economies in the world will promote new investment possibilities in our country," Simon told Andina news agency.
He stated that visitors should find a united and strong country, with accurate perspectives towards economic growth.
