Andean health officials to meet in Lima to discuss bird flu

Health officials from five Andean nations, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela will meet in Lima today to coordinate a regional contingency plan to prevent the spread of bird flu.
Pilar Mazzetti told Radio 1160 that she and her counterparts from the Andean countries were planning to discuss unified border controls and a joint response, should the bird flu disease reach the Andean region.
Spokesman John Castro from the Health Ministry spokesman, said all the foreign health ministers had confirmed their attendance for today’s meeting. "It has been recommended that each minister bring someone along who is responsible for the nations agriculture development," who normally deals with policies controlling the poultry industry, he added.
