In an effort to promote Peru’s top surfers and expose them to the country’s people, a competition known as Surfing Awards has been organized.
Surf fans can log onto the Surfing Awards website and vote for their favorite Peruvian surfer.
The page contains information about each of the athletes that has been chosen to participate in the competition as well as a photo gallery.
Voters can choose the country’s top female and male surfers along with their favorite junior (under-18 surfer). Other awards such as the biggest wave, the best surfer of all time and honorary surfer will also be given.
The awards ceremony is to take place at Maria Angola convention center on May 7.
Among the candidates in the competition is 2004 ASP champ Sofia Mulanovich, who is currently ranked number one in the world.
Even though "La Gringa" came in second place in the 2008 Rip Curl Women’s Pro, she currently has the highest number of points after two events. Mulanovich is the first South American to have been inducted into the Surfers Hall of Fame.
Other candidates taking part in the Surfing Awards competition include Gabriel Aramburu, Alexia Jeri, Anali Gomez, Nadja de Col, Toto de Romaña and Gabriel Villaran among others.
