Peru strengthens surveillance in Machu Picchu with real-time monitoring equipment

Cusco will install surveillance IP cameras in Machu Picchu’s tourist area within a 30-day period to provide better real time control, reported on Tuesday the head of Machu Picchu archaeological park, Fernando Astete.

He told Andina news agency that tender was already awarded to a company and that respective documents must be signed in the following days in order to get the project started.

An optical fiber system will be installed from the town of Machu Picchu (known as Aguas Calientes) to the entrance of the Inca Sanctuary.

“This will enable the installation of cameras and real-time monitoring equipment, as well as determine weather conditions”, stated the specialist.
