The Minister of Labour Carlos Almerí stated that before Christmas he
will increase the minimum salary, which at the moment is of 460 soles. The increase will be between 5% and 10%. In declarations to Radio RPP, the minister
informed that on Tuesday he would be meeting with the members of the technical
commission of his ministry to discuss the details of this possible increase,
which will happen gradually, in around two and a half years.
It could have consequence such as, a large number of people loosing
their jobs. A
report from the Banco Central de Reserva explains that an increase of 10% in
the minimum salary would originate to a loss of 9,200 jobs, whereas an increase
of 5% the loss would be of 4,600 jobs. Despite the fact, Almerí said that
everyone is free to an opinion.
