An increase of 9% in the minimum salary will start as of the 1st of January, Carlos Almari announced. The Consejo de Ministros announced that the new salary will be S/.500 the remuneracion minima vital (RMV).
Almeri was looking to increase between 3.5% to 8.5%, at first they were going to augment the salaries by 10%, but finally decided 9% was just right.
The minister of Production opposed (of course), and the Prime Minister Pedro Pablo Kuczynski considered only 5% to 6% in increase.
The minister of Work will publish it as of January 2006. However, Almeri said that a study showed that around 500 people would lose their job due to this change, but it would only be temporary until the economy readjusted itself.
