The price war appears poised to continue. There have been no messages announcing lower rates yet, but a new battle has arisen in which, for the moment, only two mobile players have decided to participate: Entel and Claro.
Loyalty is fragile when it affects your monthly expenses, at least in the business of choosing your phone company, Javier Alvarez, the manager of accounts of Ipsos Peru, warned days ago, and all signs indicate that Claro wants to keep appealing to their clients’ savings.
Will they drop the prices of calls per minute or for surfing the Internet? No, but they have decided that starting in June, calls to all operators will cost the same for the customers of greater consumption.
Before, if you called another Claro user it did not “cost” you, but if you called a client of Movistar, Entel or Bitel, the call had a relatively higher cost. This was Claro’s way of competing with Movistar.
Claro is launching this strategy to compete with Entel, that since arriving in 2014 has offered the same price per minute of a call to every operator. Claro now responds two years later after having lost several points of market share.
Now, Claro customers with S./ 69 soles and up plans will have unlimited access not only to call other Claro users but also to users of any operator, however, those with lower cost plans will still have unlimited calling to other Claro users and will pay a differentiated rate for calls to other operators.
