Canson City is a fantasy land of collages created by Peruvian artist Kike Congrains. At times dark, humorous and nonsensical, it seems the cut and paste city, made up of old magazines and colorful cardstock, is also mobile as today Congrains’ work is off to exhibit in Norway.
The Scandinavian Collage Museum is a contemporary art museum just north of Oslo in Berkak, Norway. Founded in 2016, the museum holds just two to three shows a year, and is perhaps the only museum in the world housed in a bus shed. “Like me as you do” is the title of the next exhibition, which opens to the public Wednesday, January 25. Only six international artists were invited to participate, representing Australia, Brazil, England, Finland, France, and Peru.
Congrains told Living in Peru he is especially excited for this international showing of his work as the exhibit is dedicated solely to collage, his specialty.
The Scandinavian Collage Museum published brief interviews on their Instagram account with each of the selected artists. Congrains, the self-proclaimed Sheriff of Canson City, speaks upon connecting with orchestra conductors through his postings on social media as well as his dream to popularize collage making in Peru. Read the interview here.
“Like me as you do” runs until March 26, however Congrains’ collage will be inducted into the museum’s permanent collection.
