The Peruvian Episcopal Conference confirmed that the anticipated visit of Pope Francis to Peru will be this coming January 18 to 21 of 2018. It is the first time in 30 years that a Pope has visited Peru since Pope John Paul II came to Lima in 1988.
Pope Francis will not only be visiting the capital in January of 2018 but will also pass through Trujillo (North Coast) and Puerto Maldonado (South Amazon region), according to El Comercio.
Peru’s President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski stated that the Pope’s visit after 30 years represents a “before and after” for a country that was torn by terrorism, economic crisis, and dictatorship in the 90’s along with stages of recovery and growth that have taken place in the last two decades.
The Pope will be in Chile from January 15 to 18 before arriving in Peru.
