Have you heard of the tapir? It is one the of world’s largest land mammals. Patrícia Medici, who is the leader of the longest running conservation project to protect the lowland tapir, tells us the importance of the tapir’s existence.
Found in tropical forests, the tapirs are called the gardeners of the forest , and for good reason. Half of their diet consists of fruits, and when they eat the seeds they then spread them by way of their feces throughout the forest. As Medici explains, the extinction of the tapir will seriously effect biodiversity as a whole.
