Peru: 5.2M earthquake registered in Arequipa

A medium-intensity earthquake shook the Arequipa region on Tuesday night, local radio RPP reported.

According to Peru’s Geophysical Institute (IGP), the quake had a 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale, and measured 3 degrees on the Mercalli Intensity Scale.

The quake occurred at 6:39 p.m, and its epicenter was located 24 kilometers southeast of the town of Pausa, 100 kilometers underground.

No injuries or damages were reported.

An earlier report by the IGP, said the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.9.

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook the Tacna region earlier on Tuesday the IGP said.

The quake, which took place at 4 a.m, and its epicenter was located 47 kilometers northeast of Tarata, 187 kilometers beneath the surface.
