Peru’s national soccer team beat Venezuela 2-1, on Friday night, during the seventh round of qualifying matches for 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Peru went into half-time losing 1-0, after a free kick by Juan Arango found its way into Raul Fernandez’s goal 43 minutes into the match, which was played at Lima’s national stadium.

Peru fought back after halftime, and Jefferson Farfán scored Peru’s first goal 3 minutes into the second half.

Farfán then scored Peru’s second goal at the 59-minute mark.

Venezuelan defender Gabriel Cichero was sent off the pitch, after a strong tackle against Carlos Zambrano earned him a second yellow card.

Friday’s win puts Peru seventh on the regional qualifying table, with 6 points.

However, Peru still trails Venezuela (8 points), Colombia (10), Uruguay (11), Ecuador (12), Chile (12), and Argentina (13).

Due to Brazil hosting the tournament, the country automatically qualified for the World Cup.

Next week Peru will face Argentina on Tuesday, again playing at Lima’s National Stadium.
