Bus crashes continue to take lives in Peru. On Thursday local media reported that a bus crash in the district of Chugay, had claimed at least 4 lives, and injured 6 more.
According to Andina, the bus drove off a road and down a ravine, crashing 500 meters below, in the mountains of La Libertad.
Local police officials said they accident occurred in the early hours of the morning, near the Aricapampa area. The cause of the accident has not yet been reported, but local media said that rain could have been a factor.
Following the incident police officials and representatives from the public ministry arrived on the scene to retrieve the bodies.
Injured passengers, Andina said, were taken to the Huamachuco Hospital.
Last year bus crashes claimed dozens of lives across the country.
In November a bus crash left 10 dead in La Libertad. Last October, a bus crash in Chiclayo left 22 dead, and 19 others critically injured.
In March, a mechanical failure caused a bus to drive off the road, in Piura, killing 16 people.
