The Diversity Visa Program, aso known as the green card lottery, is an annual program that allows 55,000 people worldwide to apply for U.S. permanent residency, without the need of sponsorship from an employer or family. Peruvians can now apply for 2021 visa lottery electronically via www.dvlottery.state.gov.
Each eligible country will have access to 7% of the total number of visas. The application window started on October 2 and will run through noon (EST), Tuesday, November 5.
Applicants need to have a valid passport, high school-level education completed and at least two years of work experience. Permanent resident status would be given to minors under the age of 21 if one of their parents is selected in the lottery.
Couples or heads of families are able to apply separately or together. If they wish to apply as a family unit, the couple must be legally married.
The results of the lottery will be known on May 5. Those chosen will be called for a personal interview at the embassy, where the qualifications of the applicants will be determined.
