Peru ex-President Fujimori rushed to hospital

Former President Alberto Fujimori was rushed to the San Felipe clinic on Wednesday night, after Fujimori experienced complications from his latest surgery.

The former president underwent surgery in August, due to mouth ulcers.

Fujimori’s doctor, Congressman Alejandro Aguinaga, said the wound on the former president’s tongue had opened days earlier, and the swelling had continued to grow, El Comercio reported.

Aguinaga said Fujimori has seen a decline in his health after this latest – and fourth – intervention over his mouth ulcers.

According to local radio RPP, Fujimori’s doctors are currently evaluating whether to operate.

The former president’s health has led supporters to argue for a humanitarian pardon.

>Last August month Fujimori’s son, Congressman Kenji Fujimori, said the > former president would no longer seek a pardon.

"My father has given up on the idea of a pardon because he knows he is innocent and there are no clear and positive signals from the government,” the younger Fujimori said.

“It’s a blow for us, especially seeing his health, but we still have the courts and we will keep fighting," he added.
