On Wednesday Alberto Fujimori’s family members filed a request for the former president’s pardon, at the country’s Ministry of Justice.

Keiko Fujimori said the request included her father’s complete medical history, El Comercio reported.

"We hope that this humanitarian pardon, made with medical opinions, is resolved with human opinions," Fujimori said.

The former president, according to his doctors, is currently battling cancer of the tongue. President Fujimori is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence on charges related to corruption and human rights abuses.

Keiko Fujimori said she, and brothers Kenji, Sachi, and Hiro, would go to the Government Palace, in order to hand President Ollanta Humala a copy of the pardon request.

"We do not expect a meeting with the president. We are just going to deliver a personal letter from the four children," Keiko Fujimori said, according to Peru21.

>According to a recent poll carried out by CPI, 56.1 percent of Lima residents said that if President Humala were to >pardon Fujimori it would divide Peruvians.
