On Thursday Keiko Fujimori answered criticism directed at her family’s move to request a pardon for her father, former President Alberto Fujimori.
“The health of Alberto Fujimori is not a political goal for his children, we just want him to recover his health,” Keiko was quoted as saying by El Comercio.
Furthermore, Keiko said her father had already apologized for his role in the human rights violations that occurred in Barrios Altos and La Cantuta.
“A humanitarian pardon,” Keiko said, “does not require a person to apologize, but I want to recall that during one of his hearings, my father apologized for his excesses; he did so spontaneously and nobly, and he has no problem doing so again.”
>Keiko’s comments come a day after she and her siblings >filed a request for the former president’s pardon at the country’s Ministry of Justice.
"We hope that this humanitarian pardon, made with medical opinions, is resolved with human opinions," Keiko said.
Meanwhile, Kenji Fujimori, the ex-president’s son, has asked for his father’s pension to be reinstated, in order for him to pay reparations to the state.
The former president, according to his doctors, is battling cancer of the tongue. He is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence on charges related to corruption and human rights abuses.
According to Keiko Fujimori, her father has already apologized for his role in the human rights violations that occurred in Barrios Altos and La Cantuta.
