Peru has been nominated in five categories of this year’s World Travel Awards, the Andina news agency reported.
Peru will compete in the South America’s Leading Culinary Destination category; Lima is in the running for South America’s Leading Destination; Callao was nominated as South America’s Leading Cruise Port; and Machu Picchu is among the favorites for South America’s Leading Green Destination.
PromPeru, Peru’s Export and Tourism Promotion Board, was also nominated for South American’s Leading Tourism Board 2013.
The first edition of the World Travel Awards Central and South American Gala Ceremony will be held in Peru’s capital city, Lima, on July 20.
The ceremony will take place at the ancient Huaca Pucclana temple, located in Miraflores, in the heart of the city.
Regional winners will compete head to head in a final round of voting to determine who will be crowned in the WTA’s world awards. The winners are announced on the night of the WTA Grand Final in December.
