On Tuesday, Peruvian prosecutors filed a formal request before the country’s court, asking for a life sentence for captured Shining Path leader Florindo Eleuterio Flores Hala, also known as ‘Comrade Artemio’.

Lead prosecutor Luis Landa said Flores would be charged with aggravated terrorism, drug trafficking, and money laundering, Andina reported.

The evidence surrounding Flores’ illegal activities, he said, is overwhelming, and his role in the Shining Path has been proven without a doubt.

“Due to the complexity of the issues we have approximately 60,000 pages for the case.”

Flores, who is currently being held at the Callao Naval Base, was captured during a military operation last February.

After his capture, local media reported Artemio had accepted responsibility for the death of 56 soldiers, 43 policemen and 32 civilians.

According to El Comercio, Artemio acknowledged his responsibility after prosecutor Marco Guzman read him the 27 police reports against him.

> >"I accept everything," Artemio said. "I accept the facts as chief of the Huallaga Regional Committee. What you have read are facts of war."
