Peru roller skating school wins 20 medals at Pan Am games


A roller skating club in Chiclayo, northern Peru, has won a haul of 20 medals at this year’s Roller Skating Pan American Games held August 27-30 in Cuenca, Ecuador, bringing together clubs and schools from six South American nations.

The delegation was comprised of six children and led by head coach Ricardo Sáenz, who helped athletes earn outstanding recognition at this competition organized by the Pan-American Confederation of Roller Sports.

Cristian Tapia was awarded two gold medals in the 12-year-old category of the 200 and 800 meter contests. On the other hand, Morey Gonzales won herself a similar award in the same category of the 800-meter contest.

Clubs from six South American countries competed in the 2014 tournament including Chile, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay and Peru.

The participation of these young athletes was supported and financed by the Peruvian Olympic Committee and the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD).

As a result, Peru’s inclusion in the Pan American Confederation of Roller Skating is almost a reality, considering that the national federation is expected to be established as soon as the required documents are complete.The youths participation was made possible by the Peruvian Olympic Committee and Peruvian Sports Institute.
