Peru soldiers lack ammo and supplies to fight rebel group

Peruvian soldiers in the towns of Kiteni, Kepashiato, and Yuveni, in Cusco are fighting narco-terrorist rebels without adequate equipment, according to a recent article in El Comercio.

Soldiers, the daily said, lack ammunition, food, and have set up camp in local schools. In some cases some soldiers have had to use their own money to buy supplies, and have a budget of  6.20 soles a day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

"When we arrived we had to build the trenches and defenses with sacks full of sand, that’s our job,” one unnamed soldier told the daily.

“The problem is that we do so with our own money, and bought the 1,300 bags we used. They said they were going to return this money, the same with our travel money, because we had to pay to move up here last September.”

Moreover, soldiers are still waiting for a re-supply of ammunition, after they clashed with rebels last September.
