Peru tied 1-1 with Argentina on Tuesday night, during the eight round of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

Peru missed a clear chance for a goal early on in the match, when Claudio Pizarro’s penalty kick was blocked by Argentinean goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Fortunately, Peru was later able to score, after a well-timed pass by Luis Advíncula found Carlos Zambrano with a clear shot at goal 22 minutes into the first half.

However, Peru’s excitement did not last for long after Gonzalo Higuain scored an equalizing goal at the 37th minute.

Peru’s defense was able to contain Lionel Messi, whose presence was barely felt during the match.

Tuesday’s match leaves Peru 7th on the qualifying table for the 2014 World Cup, with 7 points. Meanwhile, Argentina was able to retain its lead with 14 points.

Peru’s next match will be against Bolivia, on October 12 in La Paz. The red and white will then face Paraguay on October 16.
