Peru is scheduled to host the 2016 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting, according to the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rafael Roncagliolo.

Peru, he said, was unanimously approved by APEC member nations.

“Next year it will be in Indonesia, 2014 will be in China, 2015 will be in the Philippines, and 2016 will in Peru,” Roncagliolo was quoted as saying by Peru21.

Peru previously hosted the APEC Leaders’ Meeting in 2008, in Lima.

The minister made the announcement from Russia, where he will attend the 24th APEC meeting in Vladivostok.

Roncagliolo accompanied President Ollanta Humala, and other key cabinet members.

The Peruvian delegation, Roncagliolo said, will discuss trade, investment and tourism opportunities with their Russian counterparts.

Humala is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin later in the week.
